My 1/2 marathon

So I get "Fitness" magazine in the mail every month. I never read it. It has pretty much the same info in every issue. But one month I glanced at the cover and read "train for a 1/2 marathon in 8 weeks". and I thought, "ok". I thought maybe if I did something like this it would speed up my weight loss (it didn't). So I looked to see if there was a 1/2 marathon in my area close to 8 weeks away. I found one that was exactly 8 weeks away. And my sister in law Stefani said she would do it with me.

This is us after the race

About a couple weeks into the training my right leg started to hurt. I thought if I just ran through the pain it would go away. That's how it used to happen anyway. A couple weeks before the race I ran 10 miles after that it really started hurting. So I went in to get it looked at just to make sure I was still ok to run. They did a bone scan and the dr said it was almost a stress fracture and that I probably should do the 1/2 marathon but I could if I really wanted to. I had already paid for it so I decided to run it. He just told me not to run until then and not to run 8 weeks after. So I pretty much trained 6 weeks had a 2 week break and then ran a 1/2 marathon. I would not recommend this. Also I wouldn't recommend doing something like this if your trying to lose weight. Wait until you get to your goal and then do it. the days that I did my long runs I gained weight. After burning over a thousand calories in my work outs it was really hard not to eat everything in sight. I wear a heart rate monitor that tells me how many calories I burn and during the actual 1/2 marathon I burned 2000 calories. I think I gained a couple lbs that week end.

Nice work on the half marathon! And you look so good in your "after" picture! Totally motivational! Someday when we live in Utah again we will have to get together. When my husband and I were dating all he talked about was "Elder Carter" and Ecuador. We even have a picture of Clint and Trevor in our wedding video. :)

Marnae I miss running with you super duper bad. I am sorry to hear about the stress fracture. You are one tough little cookie. You look amazing by the way. I am trying to train for a 1/2 marathon in September. I don't think it is going to work out though. I ran the other day, and it took me 17 min. to run 1.2 miles. I am way out of shape.
